Law Enforcement Suicide & Prevention

Your career is one of the most toxic, dangerous, violent and traumatic in the world. You deal with the “unhealth” on the streets every day and night, then go home and try to lead a healthy home life. You are dealing with stress, yes—but more importantly, you are dealing with TRAUMA on a continuum. While each traumatic incident may not disable you or give you PTSD, you are dealing with it nonetheless, year after year, decade after decade.

Breaking the Silence on Law Enforcement Officer Suicide and Mental Health Issues is not an easy task. Each year, more law enforcement officers die because of suicide than are killed in the line of duty. Many agencies lack the resources to prevent officer suicide from occurring and are unprepared to respond effectively to it when it does. The purpose of this course is to provide the law enforcement community with samples and resource materials to initiate a suicide prevention program.
